FarmOp Capital today announced new credit products for pecan growers, providing producers with flexible credit options aimed at helping them grow their operations.
“From weather challenges to market fluctuations, keeping a farming business running isn’t easy. When you add to that the desire to grow an operation, it can become even more difficult,” said Matt Mostad, vice president, Revenue Operations for FarmOp Capital. “That’s why farmers need a financial partner who can back their plays when they need it most. Today, we’re excited to make that a possibility for pecan growers, too, offering additional financial options specifically tailored to their growing season and marketing timelines.”
FarmOp Capital provides farm operating loans for farmers based on their ability to produce a crop rather than the bottom line on the balance sheet. For farmers raising commodity crops like soybeans, corn, cotton and rice, that generally includes operating loans that stretch through the current growing season or crop year.
But for some pecan growers, especially those who grow, process and market their own pecans, the timeline is longer and more difficult to finance. While pecans come out of dormancy in the spring and are harvested in the fall, cleaning and processing takes much longer adding to the timeline of the crop – and the loan.
Jose (Pepe) Guevara, CEO of Pecan Grove Farms, has partnered with FarmOp Capital since 2023. The ability to extend his operating loan, effectively changing it from a crop loan to a loan backed by a physical asset has been key to the growth of Pecan Grove Farms.
“Partnering with FarmOp Capital has been a game changer,” Guevara said. “They provide flexible, smart capital for growth. That’s the bottom line. They take the time to understand our company and tailor the product to our needs. What’s more, we have a mutually trusting relationship with them where we trust them to help us grow in new ways and they trust us to do what we do best – create a healthy product that allows us to take care of the land because we know that every person matters, every tree matters and every pecan matters.”
